Fire Protection
In the forest area under study, there are two slightly burnt stands (u.a. 187A, 187C) whose area is 19.03 ha (12% of the forested area). This was extinguished from an early stage. The causes that can lead to the outbreak of forest fires are:
- lighting fires in the forest, leaving them unsupervised or unextinguished by forest workers, tourists, hunters, etc.
- smoking in places other than those designated for this purpose and discarding lit cigarettes at random;
- lightning, accidentally, during strong storms.
Most causes that produce forest fires generally stem from non-compliance with security and fire prevention instructions, from the negligence of people working in the forest, tourists, etc.
In order to prevent the outbreak of forest fires, the following preventive measures will be taken:
- regular preparation of fire prevention and extinguishing plans;
- procurement and periodic verification of materials for extinguishing fires;
- setting up special places for resting and smoking;
- organizing patrols during the dry season;
- organizing and training fire extinguishing teams;
- organizing all works executed in the forest in accordance with the norms for security and fire extinguishing;
- thorough revision of cables and electrical installations (generators, electric pumps, electric saws, etc.);
- setting up observation points for fire detection;
- equipping all work points and forestry cantons with appropriately equipped pickets for preventing and extinguishing fires;
- supervision of fires in clear-cut areas where logging residues are burned for their entire duration;
- equipping tractors with spark arrestors.
In the forest bodies where weekend tourism is practiced, care will be taken that tourists do not light fires in the forest or closer than 100 m to the forest edge.
Persons in charge of forest security and protection must have radio means (mobile stations, phones) to announce any potential fire in a timely manner.
We consider the existence of the SMURF project to be of great importance for raising awareness among forest owners in Europe about the multifunctionality of forests and the rights of owners, as well as for building an intra-European network of forest owners.
