Hunting Potential
The main game species populating the territory are: the roe deer and the wild boar, and the secondary species: the hare, the fox, the wolf, the marten, the badger. Game populations are estimated to be below the optimal level due to the location of forest bodies near settlements and public roads, surrounded by arable land and pastures, where the tranquility of the game is disturbed.
In order to regulate the situation, to restore optimal populations, as well as to maintain them in the future, a series of measures are required, among which we list:
- efficient protection of the game;
- monitoring of game populations;
- ensuring the tranquility of the game;
- combating game pests and poaching;
- measures to ensure food and tranquility for the game;
- maintenance of hunting facilities;
- strict observance of the hunting season and conditions established by law.
We consider the existence of the SMURF project to be of great importance for raising awareness among forest owners in Europe about the multifunctionality of forests and the rights of owners, as well as for building an intra-European network of forest owners.
